Start Spreading The News

As the month of October 2011 began, I couldn’t help but reflect on MoneyWise and our beginning. Just 12 short months ago, Varlin, Barry and myself were gathered in a borrowed boardroom. We sat around the conference table and discussed a company that we were going to call “MoneyWise.” We listed all the reasons why we wanted to bring this company to the world and how it could really help those who would use it. This is the first product that all three of us felt like we would be proud to share with everyone we knew.

For the past couple of years we had personally watched our nation’s financial crisis grow and grow. We watched on the news and in our own neighborhoods as families lost their jobs and homes. We saw businesses close their doors and buildings become vacant. It has been sad to see friends and families struggle just to provide the basics for themselves. But with MoneyWise, we felt like we had found something that could help everyone we knew, regardless of their financial situation. We knew we could be an answer to their problems instead of adding to them. 

As we all know, Steve Jobs passed away this month. He was a true visionary who said something when he was wooing John Scully away from PepsiCo that has stuck with me for all these years. He said, “Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water or do you want a chance to change the world?” When I think of MoneyWise and the opportunity we have to help individuals, and the chance we have to truly change the world, I get very excited.

We live in a day and age in which the rapid pace of advances in technology can confound even the most technically savvy. We can travel to the other side of the world in under a day, communicate with millions with the click of a button (thanks FaceBook) and businesses can make decisions that cause ripple effects throughout the entire world economy. Luckily MoneyWise is all about simplicity and ease. With just a few clicks you are able to load all of your accounts into the system and then you can begin to see your COMPLETE financial situation. 

MoneyWise is by far the most robust, comprehensive financial tool available on the market today. We are committed to your success and we are accelerating our efforts to help you capitalize on this great opportunity. This is a very exciting time to be part of MoneyWise. In the next month, the launch of MoneyWise 2.0 will change the playing field again with the addition of business accounts, the ability to add additional people for credit and ID protection, manual data entry, a simple set-up wizard, quickbooks integration, financial reports and a new user interface.

If Steve Jobs was still with us, and we asked him to give us a commencement speech for this next phase of success, I doubt his advice would vary one word from what he said in his commencement speech at Stanford University:
“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Words from the Wise

It all started over two decades ago with one of those eureka moments when nothing from there on out ever looks the same. It was when Linda Wallentine saw a small town Idaho raspberry farmer working his business. She realized right then and there that she would become a business owner herself, enjoying the independence that comes from striking out on your own. After a long and successful career in the direct marketing industry, Linda has now decided to apply her business savvy where it can be of best use, helping others succeed with MoneyWise.

Here’s what we recently learned from one of the wisest Affiliates in the company.


The first thing we found out is that Linda never does business without a trustworthy partner. In this case--and as a matter of fact--in all cases, it’s always been her husband Glen. They do everything together. When a decision was made to exit the company that helped them build a life for themselves, and a subsequent decision was made to haul milk for a living, they did that together too. But when the economy tanked and it was harder to make a buck on a tank of milk, the Wallentines were again faced with making a decision about what to do next. That’s when Linda heard the sweet and sonorous strains of MoneyWise sung by David Osmond on the promo video. After looking over a number of businesses that looked like a fresh ripe raspberry on the outside but sounded like a Bronx cheer raspberry on the inside, she sensed that this one was right. On a strictly marketing level, she found the video upbeat and fun, not boring like reading a word wall of facts. But on a much deeper level, the video spoke to her gut instincts. It’s about real life.

Along with her husband, Linda knew that the litmus test would be a little face time with the founders. Past experience has taught her that the leaders in this line of work make all the difference. They need to genuinely care about people and be in touch with the field or the company won’t go the distance. Knowing for herself what a cohesive partnership can do for a business, she compared the relationship between corporate leaders and those in the field with a good marriage. There has to be a high level of trust. It didn’t take Linda long to size up Varlin, Taylor and Barry. After asking all the hard questions, she just plain had a good feeling about them. Maybe you’ve seen that funny TV commercial where the nerdy teenage son holding a slushy drink confirms to his mother that the sales clerk at the Verizon store is dealing straight with them, when he calmly says, “he’s clean.” It was kind of like that.

The confirmation that the MoneyWise founders and their product are focused on helping others improve their lives really struck a chord with Linda that day. Her and her husband couldn’t sleep that night. Both of them were so done with businesses with overpriced products that really don’t help. They wanted to be involved with something that truly makes a difference. Over the years, Linda and Glen have always loved to help people improve their financial situation because they recognized that it helps all other aspects of their lives.

Linda explained that MoneyWise allows her the opportunity to get involved in people’s lives, care about who they are and what they dream of, and give them hope. By providing tools that teach valuable concepts so people can help themselves throughout their lives, and with the added bonus of also making an income, MoneyWise empowers people to move into the future and avoid the gloom of stagnation.

Linda has found it very easy to open up conversations about MoneyWise. That’s because everyone she talks to is already talking about money issues such as getting out of debt, surviving these tough economic times, and figuring out how to become more financially wise. So what does she do? She says it’s easy because the financial gurus in the media have already laid down her groundwork. People are already aware that they need something to help them take control of their money. She just shows them where to find the tool that will help them do it. And that starts by simply showing them where to find David Osmond singing about us. After that, they find nothing but raspberries through and through.

PFM Highlights and Tips


Your Personal Financial Advisor

To get your own personal financial advisor set up in MoneyWise, log into the back office, go under “my profile,” click under “financial advisor,” and enter in the User name of another User with whom you have made arrangements to be your financial advisor. Then create a custom dashboard for your advisor by checking the boxes pertaining to your financial information you want them to see.

After that, your advisor will be able to click on the “manager” link at the top of the page, then click on “dashboards” so they can search for you alphabetically and see the dashboard you have provided for them. This way you can have meaningful financial conversations with your trusted advisor and still protect any financial data you do not wish them to see.

Opportunity of a Lifetime

Helen Keller once said, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved.” I’ve learned that success or failure can be influenced by how we act or react to challenges put in front of us. Some people call them challenges. Helen Keller liked to call them opportunities. All of us are divinely designed to reach our full potential and to feel the joy of accomplishment along the way. Sometimes it’s a simple matter of viewing our challenges in a different light, and turning them into opportunities.
What seems like only a short while ago, I was faced with my biggest “challenge” to date. I was diagnosed with leukemia. As you can imagine, many questions raced through my mind as the reality of my condition sunk in. Questions such as, “How could this happen to someone who eats healthy and avoids anything harmful?” “What will become of my wife and children?” “How will they meet financial obligations?” “What is their future?” “Would the world go on without me?” “Did I leave a positive mark for my fellow beings?”
My road to recovery was long and treacherous. I remember one painful night, while lying alone on a hospital bed, I made a promise. If I could make it out of there alive, I was going to do everything I could to prevent the hell I was then facing from impacting others the way it had me and my family. Being financially fit was a must, and good health imperative. I would live each day to its fullest. I would try to find balance. I would not sweat the small stuff. I would make the world a better place to live. I would try to meet my potential and help others achieve the same. I would follow the sentiments of Ralph Waldo Emerson: “It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.” This was a critical moment of truth for me. I knew that if I didn’t see this challenge differently – see that there was a brighter future which I was now more prepared than ever to meet – that I would have missed the opportunity of a lifetime.
Since then, I have been amazed with the many other opportunities that have fortuitously come my way. Especially MoneyWise. Credit Card Myths

One of the most ridiculous myths being circulated is that the responsible thing to do is cut up your credit cards and close your accounts. Nothing could be further from the truth, or more damaging to your credit. I’ve seen firsthand the devastation this can cause to your credit score.

Let me explain. Thirty percent of your credit rating is what is called “credit capacity.” Simply stated, your credit capacity is the amount of available credit versus how much you owe. For example, if you have a thousand dollar limit on your credit card, with a two hundred dollar balance, you are at twenty percent capacity. But if you cut up that same credit card, and close your account, you now have a balance of the same two hundred dollars, but an available credit line of zero, which means you have no credit line available. You are maxed out, with no capacity which will lower your credit score.

Bottom line: Understanding credit capacity is the key to maintaining a higher credit score. Keep your credit cards open, and do not close your accounts.
